Project Overview
This project aimed to set up a sustainable educational garden at the To Rev Nu Vision Foundation in Beau Bassin, directly benefiting students coming from a vulnerable background. Practical training and hands-on life skills were taught to the children through the process of creating the garden. This led to the developing self sufficiency and social inclusion amongst the children, aligning the project with key Sustainable Development Goals.
Background of NPO
To Rev Nu Vision Foundation aims to empower adolescents from vulnerable communities in Mauritius, not able to meet the rigors of the general school system. These youth are equipped with essential skills in numeracy, literacy, information technology, cookery, gardening, and sewing; fostering personal growth and self-reliance.
Description of Project
The project involves setting up of a small-scale educational garden within the school yard. Students were trained by a professional in sustainable gardening and sessions covered planting, composting and garden maintenance. The model was intentionally designed to be space-efficient and replicable in the children’s homes. Making it practical even for students who live in homes with no garden space.
