Open Lens – Nonprofit Governance Insight and Consolidation

Open Lens, developed by I61 Foundation, is a targeted support programme designed to strengthen governance, transparency, and regulatory compliance within nonprofit organisations (NPOs) in Mauritius.

The programme provides hands-on, tailored guidance through a structured assessment, personalised support to manage compliance gaps, and strategic follow-up.

Open Lens empowers NPOs to build stronger, more accountable organisations aligned with Mauritian regulations and global best practices.

Comprehensive Support for Governance & Compliance

Open Lens delivers a practical and structured approach to strengthening nonprofit operations:

  • A comprehensive review of governance structures, internal processes, and compliance status
  • Identification of gaps, risks, and priority areas for improvement
  • Practical guidance on meeting Mauritian nonprofit regulatory requirements
  • Support with administrative and regulatory processes (including submissions and calculations where relevant)
  • Access to ready-to-use templates and tools to streamline internal operations and regulatory submissions.
  • Guidance on improving organisational policies, documentation, and record-keeping
This approach ensures that organisations not only understand their regulatory requirements but are equipped to implement them efficiently.

Tangible Outcomes for Nonprofit Organisations

By the end of the Open Lens programme, participating NPOs will:

  • Gain a clear understanding of their regulatory, and compliance obligations in Mauritius
  • Have a structured overview of existing gaps and actionable priorities
  • Access practical tools, templates, and systems to support ongoing operations
  • Strengthen governance frameworks, decision-making processes, and accountability
  • Be better equipped to maintain compliance and operational efficiency over time

These outcomes position organisations for greater sustainability and credibility within their communities and to potential funders.

A Structured, Step-by-Step Support Process

Open Lens is delivered through a series of focused and collaborative stages:

  • Preparation & Assessment
Gathering key organisational information and reviewing current governance and compliance practices whilst ensuring complete confidentiality.
  • Analysis & Review
Identifying gaps, risks, and opportunities for improvement based on findings.
  • Reporting
Delivering a clear, structured assessment report with practical recommendations and next steps.
  • Support Sessions
Working closely with your team to implement required changes and strengthen systems.

This structured approach ensures that organisations move from insight to action, with measurable improvements at every stage.
