Project Overview

The ‘Cantine Solidaire’ project aims to empower mothers of children enrolled in the “Enfants de Demain” educational program at the NGO, Anges du Soleil, by providing them with economic opportunities through the management of a ‘cantine solidaire’. The canteen will serve as both a training ground and a sustainable income source for the mothers, whilst ensuring access to healthy, affordable meals for the local community. These mothers already have a cooperative together called ‘Ansam’ through which the project will be run.

This project proposal focuses on the setup and operationalization of the canteen. This includes the design, supplier identification, renovation, acquiring the necessary permits and food handling certifications.

Description of Project

Short-term Objectives:

Finalize the establishment of the Ansam Cooperative to manage the solidarity canteen.
Train at least 50 mothers in catering management and food safety.
Ensure that all participating mothers obtain their Food Handlers Certificates.
Secure necessary permits and approvals from the Ministry of Health.
Complete the design and setup of the canteen, including infrastructure renovations.
Identify reliable suppliers of equipment, ingredients, and packaging.
Launch the takeaway meal service within six weeks of commencing the project.

Medium-term Objectives:

Achieve a monthly income of MUR 100,000 from meal sales.
Provide meals to 500 people per month, including schools, businesses, and the local community.
Establish long term partnerships with schools and businesses.

Long-term Objectives:

Ensure the financial sustainability of the cooperative through meal sales and other services, while reducing poverty among the participating mothers.
Expand to additional services, such as catering for events and corporate clients.
Contribute to poverty reduction among participating mothers by creating consistent income sources.

Expected Impact of the Project

Economic Empowerment of Mothers: Reducing economic hardship through the acquisition of new skills and income generation.
Improved Nutrition in the Community: Providing healthy, affordable meals to the local community, including children and schools.
Strengthening Community Bonds: Creating a social network around the cooperative, fostering mutual support among mothers and other community members.
