Project Overview

Phase 1: Les Boulbouls Project consists of a playcentre for 2-year-olds from vulnerable families. The team at Les Boulbouls welcome children with little or no socialisation prior to their entry into pre-primary school, as well as children with delayed motor, intellectual and sensory development. They welcome these children with the aim of helping them develop their motor and intellectual skills in preparation for pre-primary school.

Phase 2: Les Boulbouls offers an after-school program for children who have left “Les Ti Serins Ecole Maternelle” in Petit Bel Air, and just entered primary school, to ensure educational follow-up with them.

Funding is required for the purchase of tables, chairs, stationery and a pressure cooker.

Description of Project

This project is located in Mahebourg and is designed in two parts:

  1.  To cater for two year olds, too young to attend preschool. As soon as they turn three years old, they are enrolled into Les Ti Serins Pre-primary School.  If the class in the little section of the school is full, the parents will be advised of another pre-primary school during the social follow up with them. The children arrive at 9am by school van and are welcomed with breakfast. The teacher and assistant then lead a circle time with songs and choreography. The aim of this project is to socialise the children around playtime and many games, before they enter pre-primary school and to introduce them to a little routine so that their adaptation to pre-primary school goes more smoothly. At 11:30am, the children are served lunch, and at 12:30, the van collects them to take them home. The beneficiaries of this program are two-year-old children in precarious situations who have certain developmental delays, delays in speech acquisition, difficulties in adapting to the classroom, inappropriate behaviour on the part of certain children, and socialisation difficulties.
  2. To provide an After-school Program. The first beneficiaries of this program will be those children from Ti Serins Pre-primary Schoolchildren who have just started primary school. The children are between 5 and 6 years old and require support with their transition between pre-school and primary school as any tuition support they may require.
Funding has been provided to purchase tables, chairs, stationery and a pressure cooker.
