Project Overview

The Mauritian Wildlife Foundation (MWF) researchers had not electricity available to them at The project aimed to supply, install, test and commission a Jackery model was selected and procured from the UK. The equipment was delivered in March 2026 to Mauritius and subsequently installed. The system now provides essential electricity for refrigeration, charging of essential electrical devices and basic connectivity, significantly improving the living and working conditions of staff at the field station during the week, who previously had no access to electricity. The staff are very happy and thankful.

Background of NPO

The Mauritian Wildlife Foundation (MWF) protects and safeguards Mauritius’ natural heritage from extinction through scientific conservation work and community awareness.

MWF relies on local and international organisations who can support its work long term, or can support specific initiatives, activities, equipment or general expenses essential for achieving its mission.

Description of Project

The MWF researchers of Camp Field Station in Petrin had no access to a sustainable electricity source or a running fridge.  Funding ensured that the project successfully delivered and installed a portable power solution at, providing reliable access to electricity through one Jackery power station and two solar panels. The system now supports essential needs such as refrigeration, charging of essential electrical devices and basic connectivity for 3 days. It has taken a long time for this issue to be resolved and having the Jackery as an alternative solution has had a huge impact on the welfare of the staff.

The model chosen – which was the most powerful that could be imported from the UK, however, doesn’t supply sufficient charge for one week of operation. Ideally two power stations would have been necessary, as the one purchased covers about 3 days of electricity. It is nevertheless a huge improvement over the previous situation. Moreover, with the funds available, a small refrigerator was purchased. A model with low energy consumption was chosen.

Project Impact

Installation of the Jackery has significantly improved the living and working conditions of field staff stationed at Camp Field Station. Previously, the absence of electricity made it difficult for staff to remain connected and effectively manage their food. Access to electricity has enhanced staff comfort and morale, enabling them to perform their duties more effectively while staying at the field station.

The purchase of the fridge has also significantly improved staff welfare.
