Project Overview

After more than 10 years running the SunKids Educational, Care and Development Program in Black River, the kitchen is in need of renovation to ensure it meets the standards of the Ministry of Health.  It is also essential for the preparation of meals for the children to be made in a safe and hygienic environment. The tiles, kitchen fittings, oven and extractor fan need to be replaced.

This kitchen is now used for 3 of Ti Rayons Soleil’s projects in the area:

– 45 children fed from Monday to Wednesday for the After School Project

– 32 children fed every day from Paille en Queue Pre-primary school

– 20 youth fed 2 days per week for the Youth Empowerment Project on Thursdays and Fridays

Description of Project

The primary goal of the Sunkids Educational, Care and Development Program is to offer academic support for children aged 5 to 12 who mostly have difficulties in learning to read, or even cannot read or write. The sessions are held three times a week and last an average of one hour. Afterwards, a hot meal is offered to the children.
In addition, we also offer educational, artistic and fun activities to help children counter academic failure while inviting them to make discoveries and change horizons. Our actions promote the moral and intellectual development of the children who attend our programs.

Ti Rayons Soleil aims to help and accompany the beneficiaries through different types of support and one of the most important is the food support. Preparing meals in good conditions is essential for healthy meals.
The kitchen has been creating meals for the children for more than 10 years and without major renovation. The equipment is outdated and needs replacing. The floor and the walls need repairs and the kitchen furniture is broken. Having a fully functional kitchen will help in the preparation of meals in good conditions and meet the Ministry of Health standards.
