After School Classes
After School Classes

Education for All
Focus:
UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
Project Overview
This project supports 45 children who are beneficiaries of the NGO, Bonheur Associé aux Enfants (BAE). These children suffer from extensive social and poverty related issues. BAE provides support for all their basic educational needs, ensuring that they attend school with all the necessary materials and uniform ensuring they maintain their dignity.
In addition to their social challenges, these children produce poor academic results due to their poor education level as they have difficulty coping with the standard school curriculum and syllabus. To remedy this situation BAE also provides them with free after school remedial classes.
Description of Project
45 children supported by BAE face incredible difficulties at home and in school. BAE offers to provide Remedial After School Classes and other enriching activities. To cater to diverse learning needs, the program follows a teaching method that engages sight, sound, touch, and movement. The teachers focus on:
- Identifying students’ strengths and weaknesses and differentiating instruction accordingly.
- Reinforcing positive behaviours through praise and rewards.
- Using music, documentaries, role-playing, and storytelling.
- Incorporating IT tools for subjects like geography and general knowledge.
- Using charts, checklists, and step-by-step instructions to ensure understanding.
- Breaking down complex topics into smaller, manageable parts and using Creole for better comprehension.
Objectives of the Project
The goal is to improve the children’s academic performance, nurture their inner skills, enhance their artistic potential, and ensure they grow into responsible future citizens of Mauritius. By making learning accessible and engaging, the project supports children academically while also fostering their creativity and personal growth. This holistic approach helps them overcome challenges and prepares them for a brighter future.
Selection Process of Beneficiaries
Initially, BAE chose the neediest families from a survey carried out by their members in 2020. Since then, they have been working with selected pupils from pre-primary to Grade 7. Every year, newly selected pupils join the program from their beneficiary families as well as recommendation from the National Empowerment Foundation (NEF) for children who are on the Social Register of Mauritius (SRM).
