Project Overview

Danckwerts Primary School was first founded in 1948. It was the first primary school with one brick classroom on a commercial farm in then Rhodesia.  The school was “rebranded” in 1996 under the Ministry of Education. The Danckwerts family was designated the “The Responsible Authority”.The family supplied the buildings and hardware for the school plus day to day management. The Ministry of Education provides the teaching staff (Total 22 – 16 female and 6 male teachers). The Danckwerts family subsidizes the monthly running costs. The project we are presenting is to build a computer learning centre with 40 desks and 40 desktop computers, linked to the internet with Starlink and additional bathroom facilities for the teachers. The school currently has 750 pupils from ECD A to grade 7.

Description of Project

The children at the school are from extremely poor backgrounds and do not have access to computers or the internet.  This project will change their lives. The project (Phase I) will be to build one large classroom with 40 desks and 40 desktop computers.  The classroom with measurement of 15m x 8m.  A simple sketch is attached.

Objectives of the Project

The main objective is for every child to be taught basic computer skills and also to link each computer to the internet for additional online learning and exposure.

Selection Process of Beneficiaries

The school will get guidance from the Ministry of Education syllabus, but will encourage the school to expose each child to computers from an early age.  We are hoping all of the 750 children will benefit.
