Project Summary

Association Pour Personnes En Larmes (APPEL) registered since 2006 operates ARCH Rehabilitation Center for homeless and people recovering from addiction. APPEL also runs ARCH Training Center providing hard/soft skills for beneficiaries including vulnerable women/children in the local community of Port Louis. Annex to this is ARCH Café/ Catering which is a Social Entrepreneurship initiative powered by APPEL providing catering services to small and medium corporate/ private events to create employment opportunities for graduated trainees and enabling them to become economically autonomous.

APPEL is constructing a new building to host the ARCH Training Center (G+1 floors approx 7000 ft2) to expand its services free of charge to those who have barriers to employment and career guidance opportunities. The intention is to become the first NGO providing customized MQA certified training in various trades such as wood, metal, electric, plumbing, pastry, cookery, hairdressing, beauty care, etc. The plot of land belongs to APPEL. This project is CSR approved and APPEL is CSR accredited and hence any contributions may be accounted for under your CSR programme. If you are interested to know more, we would be more than happy to make a presentation to the management and explain more details about the project and its impacts in the lives of people we work with

Detailed Proposal

Today APPEL is renting an old building which is located only 50m from the construction site and about 300m from ARCH Rehab Center. This building is quite limited in terms of space and structural layout which limits our operations. We have to constantly invest in repairs works, and it is no longer viable to use this facility. The land where we have started the construction work is a prime location with high visibility on the motorway at the entrance of Port Louis with hundreds of vehicles and commuters every morning which provides a superb opportunity to relocate ARCH Training Center and ARCH Café at the same time.

Approval for the BLUP has been received and the construction work started on 15th February 2023 and is expected to be completed by September 2023.

In this funding request we are focusing on the tiling works – to cover the cost of purchasing tiles and materials, labour costs, and for the laying of tiles for about 600m2 on the Ground and 1st Floors, including kitchen, bathrooms, toilets, stairs, etc.

Thank you for your consideration.
