Project Summary
The primary objective of this project was to provide immediate and effective response in the aftermath of the cyclone season in Mauritius. The focus addressed the urgent needs of affected communities during times of crisis, ensuring their safety, and facilitating recovery efforts.
Detailed Proposal
One of the four focus areas of I61 Foundation is Support During Times of Crisis. Cyclones in the Indian Ocean are predicted to become more frequent and more powerful. The result: more communities being affected through loss of and destruction of homes and property..
During these times of crisis, I61 Foundation makes contact with all of our registered nonprofit partners in the affected regions to understand the direct need of their beneficiaries. Items are then purchased from suppliers by I61 Foundation and delivered directly to the NPOs who distribute the items
The funds raised are used to support displaced families through the purchase of:
- Iron sheets to consolidate houses
- Mattresses that become sodden and irreparable
- Food packs to provide for essentials lost in storm water or spoiling from lack of electricity.
I61 Foundation then visits each of the supported NPOs to review the outcomes of the project. 5 NPOs in 11 regions are being supported this year.
